Korean Society of Hazard Mitigation was founded in 2000 for the purpose of leading academic and technological development in such areas as disaster prevention, preparedness, countermeasure, and recovery in order to protect the lives and properties of our people. Today, it is the largest academic association of disaster and safety professionals with over 3,000 active members.

This society makes every effort to address the issues related to complexation, diversification, and enlargement of disaster risks that are emerging from climate changes.

As the professional association in active reaction to the increasing needs of our society, our society will continue to make the best contribution to escalating the scientific and technological approach toward the domestic and foreign issues regarding disasters and safety.

Korean Society of Hazard Mitigation was founded for the objectives of academic and technological development in the areas of disaster management and protection of human lives and properties. The many efforts have been made to achieve those objectives.

Mission

  • To establish safe and resilient society from disasters

Purposes

  • Conducting research projects, technical advices and evaluation of disaster risk management technologies
  • Distributing and Applying research results of disaster risk management
  • Publishing technical reports, magazines, peer-reviewed journals, and books on disaster risk management
  • Communicating among academic societies for knowledge exchange
  • Hosting domestic and international conferences, seminars, and training courses
  • Legislating protocols, regulations, or codes against disaster risk management

Strategies

  • Playing leading role in disaster risk management and safety fields
  • Establishing network among governmental, academic, industrial, and research organizations
  • Communicating and Cooperating to cope with members’ needs
  • Leading the society’s qualitative change and advancement
  • Performing a central role for global governance
